I know. The station is WHAM-13 now. But it will always be WOKR to me. I started there as an intern. I learned valuable lessons about hitting the PLAY button on a VCR after a very bitter labor strike. Thanks, Steve Schiller. Thanks a lot! (actually Steve saved my life years later... but that's another story.)
There are a handful of things that I still hear in my sleep. Hello Rochester is one of them. As you can see in other work that I have done, big logos seem to be a theme. I must have been overcompensating for something.
Classic. Check out the state of the art animation.
Remember, MTV was a big thing back then. We thought we were pretty damn cool.
Well, Bryan was cool. I was just riding on his coat tails.
What a nice way to see all of the folks in the newsroom circa 1987. We did this series as the Constitution celebrated 100 years. Seems fitting to include these in that this year, 2020 will most likely be the last year of the Constitution. *
*UPDATE!! December, 2020 Update: So with a little luck, America will have one more chance.
I have included a lot of the slates on these. It's kind of fun to see the names. And Steve Schiller, and Bill Alden, I bet you hear that countdown in your sleep. I was always struck by how far we would go to get a free meal.
TRIGGER ALERT: For anyone who had any responsible management position during this experience, please make sure you have taken your medication. To this day, I still can't look at a hot air balloon without my nervous tick returning.
I only include this one for all the production nerds out there. In 1987, the ONLY way to do moves like this on still photos was a mechanical copy table that had a motor controlled zoom and turntable. Don Loy approved $500 for me to go to Charlex in New York City and buy 1 hour of time to get these images done.
Charlex was the same place that did the Saturday Nigh Live open in the mid-80's, as well as the Cars video "You Might Think". You'd know the look if you saw it.
With Mike Bailey's permission, I am including this piece he and Bill Alden did. A comedy classic. Many great performances by 13'ers.
